🏏 Club Coach Announcement!! 🏏

The Bulleen Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Oliver Jones has been appointed as our new Head Coach for the 2024/25 season and beyond.

Oliver has extensive coaching experience in his native England, having received his Level 2 ECB Cricket Coach qualification in February 2024 , and has worked at St Edmund’s College, a constituent college of the prestigious Cambridge University, for two years in charge of cricket teams of various age groups.

He has a wealth of experience working with developing cricketers of all ages and abilities, and with so many of our Juniors heavily involved in our Senior Cricket, both playing matches and at training, his expertise is a tremendous acquisition to our Junior program, and another great reason to sign your child up as a Bulleen Junior for the upcoming season!

Oliver certainly has big shoes to fill at Bulleen, with club great Kerry Tsonis having taken our first XI to three premierships, including the 2013/14 Dunstan Shield title, in his two stints at the helm from 2010 onwards.

On behalf of everyone at Bulleen, welcome to the Bulls Ollie and let’s make your first season in charge one to remember!

Bull New Bulls In Charge Bull

Having served for ten years as Bulleen Cricket Club secretary, Chris Jolly will take over as club President for the 2024/25 season and beyond.

A message from the president:

Welcome to another cricket season at Bulleen!

It was a great honour for me to take over the presidency at the AGM at what is a very exciting time for the club. Thank you to Neil for his tireless work throughout the years. We all hope you're enjoying a well-earned retirement!

In February of this year the club the club engaged with an external consultant who specialises in the building of sporting clubs with the aim of improving our off-field operations. One of the key findings to come out of this was how we are not engaged with our wider community, especially our past players.

This newsletter, together with our membership program which you can find details of on the last page, is our way of connecting. The newsletter will go out fortnightly in season and monthly in the off-season, and will keep you up to date with the happenings at the club on and off the field.

We have also had a number of other changes at executive level.

  • Nick Andrews re-joins the Committee and will serve as a co-Vice President alongside Peter Tyson
  • After a number of years on the committee and the last couple as Junior Coordinator, Tim Miller will step into the Secretary role
  • Claire Stackwood-Smith, who has helped out in various roles with our junior cricket teams for the past decade, will take on the position of Junior Coordinator.

It's great to see younger members of the club step up and lead the club into the future.

In the next edition of the Bull-etin, we will be hopefully have a fixture and social calendar available, which will include a date for Past Players Day. I hope to see as many of our past players as possible at what should be a fantastic event to celebrate our Club’s long and proud history!

🏏 Thanks Neil!

After seven years as President, Bulleen Cricket Club stalwart Neil Henry is handing the reins over.

For the best part of 50 years, Neil has lived and breathed Bulleen Cricket.

Neil started his junior career with Bulleen as a youngster, and has one of our club’s most extraordinary playing records. His figures include:

  • More than 6000 runs, (30 x 50s and 2 x 100s)
  • 400 wickets and counting
  • Eight premierships, including 2012/13 LOC Premiership Captain

But while Neil’s work on the field has been tremendous, it is his efforts off the field that have truly made our club what it is today.

  • Neil has put time into just about every aspect of the club, in particular serving for seven years as President, along with many more years as a Committee member.
  • Neil has coached juniors, reinvigorated the Junior Blasters program and put an extraordinary amount of time and effort into compiling a statistical history of the club on MyCricket dating back more than half a century.

Neil has made the decision to step away as President for the 2024/25 season, and hand the reins over to incoming President Chris Jolly.

On behalf of everyone at Bulleen, we thank Neil for his outstanding contribution to our club - exceptional knock, Pres!
